Physical solutions to physical problems

Osteopathy is a primary healthcare profession that focusses on the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal problems and the effects that these can have on your general health.

Broadly speaking this means that we find physical solutions to physical problems and will look at all aspects of your life in relation to the symptoms that you are experiencing. We will consider your past medical history, your lifestyle and the environment you work in, as well as additional factors (such as children!) that may have an impact on you.

This means that you will get truly individual care that will be tailored to your circumstances. It is important to note that classical and cranial osteopathy are not different from osteopathy, they are merely labels that help to represent a particular viewpoint or that indicate a certain approach to treatment.

Osteopaths treat people, not conditions

When we diagnose and treat a patient we keep in mind all the information we have gathered and apply it to you in the context of your own life. This may mean that although two patients have pain in the same area of the body, their experience of that pain will be unique to each of them. It follows that the treatment experience will vary from patient to patient and from session to session.

As an example, a patient with asthma will be assessed and treated from the point of view that, in addition to the other factors, the asthma will have an input to the overall condition. In many cases this can include changes to the mechanics of the ribcage, or anxiety if the attacks are traumatic. The treatment approach will be explained to you with this in mind.

What is classical osteopathy

Classical osteopathy is a form of osteopathy that aims to go further than just relieving the symptoms that bring you into the clinic. It is based on the total body adjustment, a form of treatment where each part of the body is addressed at each session with a view to integrating and improving function of the whole patient. This does not mean that every treatment is the same. Each session is based around a structured framework with techniques added or removed as necessary.

What is cranial osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is a very gentle and effective approach to treatment that is safe for patients of all ages. Most people will have heard of it in relation to the treatment of babies, but it is a treatment suited to all. Despite the name, it is used in different ways throughout the body according to need.

Stefan really listens to what you say and works in partnership with you to improve and maintain your wellbeing.
